Russell Mountford

'The full Monty'

2005 Open Champion at 3 Sisters in what was his first full season's racing, Russell has, with Dave Bowcock, been one of the outstanding young prospects to ride at the Preston Club's meetings this year.Following from his father's racing example, Russell is still only 22 years old but is determined to make his mark. The Honda pictured above at 3 Sisters has now been sold and the young rider from Wigan is scratching together as much as he can to get a superbike; an R1 is the target. He intends to continue with Preston, but is now moving into a full season with Derby Phoenix, where circuits like Croft, Donnington and Oulton park will challenge his skills. The MRO had appealed, but the extensive changes to the racing format next year and the accompanying expense have put him off. At the moment this immensely promising rider has no sponsorship at all. If any wealthy philanthropist with an interest in giving talent its chance is reading this he need go no farther than telephoning Russell on 01942 865805.

Second in the 2007 Newcomers' Manx and runner up in the Aintree 600 Championship, Russell Mountford has outlined his prospects for 2008. One of the brightest young prospects on the Northern Club scene, Monty has impressed a lot of people  with his smooth riding style and modest attitude. He was particuarly gracious accepting his disappointment at being pipped at the post by Roy Richardson for the Aintree Championship.Fastrackimages wishes him all the best.

Speaking to Fastrackimages, Monty said:

'I Will be keeping my R6 again for another year, I've got on with it so well this year it would be a shame to let it go Its a bog standard machine but to do 115.8 from a standing start in the IOM its perfectly competetive for me and yet reliable.
Basically it's more of the same from last year,I will be doing a full season with the Wirrall 100 which I didnt do last year, and another full season with the Aintree Club as well as the Scarborough meetings.
I've also got a free entry into the Manx(paid for by the Hailwood Foundation) so i'll be racing my R6 in the Junior.I've also got a ride on a mega competetive Honda 400 owned by Tim Dwerryhouse which will be more than capable of a result so we'll see what we can do with that.(Alan Oversby won on it in 06)
After this years Manx I have received some interest from a potential sponsor in Blackburn for the Isle of Man.I''m still searchng for a sponsor to help with our short circuit campaign but i'm sure we'll still be on the grid if I have to beg steal or borrow my way there'.
