Dave Holden; Rob Coward

News of Dave Holden and Rob Coward;

Rob Coward was more seriously hurt than was believed by the Aintree Club at the time. There have been grafts and plates necessary to his left arm as the photo shows . Dave is going to be in hospital for another fortnight to enable his body, in his words, 'to start working again' Club stalwarts will recognise Tony Shaw, former mega star at Aintree and elsewhere, who was one of the many visitors Dave has had at the Royal Blackburn Hospital (ward B22). Asked about the future, Dave's only remark was that he would have to race 'the little one, if the long one wasn't repaired' Photos were taken by John Abel, who has kept the site informed of the situation. Aintree certainly looks after its own.

The Legend Lives on

  Michael Dunlop wins his first TT

Michael Dunlop today won a heavily delayed second Relentless Supersport race on his privately entered Street Sweep/Marlow Construction Yamaha, leading from start to finish, following in the footsteps of father Robert and Uncle Joey as a TT winner. The 21-year old stole an early advantage in the damp conditions and was never headed, coming home 31 seconds ahead of Bruce Anstey (Relentless by TAS Suzuki) and Conor Cummins (McAdoo Kawasaki).

                         Hutchinson Double as he wins Superstock

And another second spot for Martin

Ian Hutchinson made it two wins in the day when he won a sensational Royal London 360? Superstock race on his Padgetts Honda, defeating Guy Martin by 8.77 seconds. That doesn’t tell the whole story though and for the majority of the race the race lead was never more than one second with the first lap alone seeing four different leaders whilst the lap record was smashed repeatedly. The race also saw Jenny Tinmouth become the fastest female ever to have lapped the Mountain Course when she lapped at 116.483mph on her final lap, beating Maria Costello’s 2004 lap by 17.72 seconds.

It looked like Martin was going to take his first ever TT win when he led by 3 seconds at Glen Helen on the third lap but by the end of the lap his lead had been whittled down to an almost unbelievable 0.04seconds! Hutchinson had lost time at his pit stop when the filler cap wouldn’t go in but he absolutely flew on the last lap and, having broken the lap record on the second lap, he smashed it even further on the final lap with a speed of 129.746mph. Martin had to settle for second once more and Keith Amor took third to make it an identical 1-2-3 to the earlier Supersport race.

Hutchinson's Supersport

Martin gets second

Padgett’s Honda star Ian Hutchinson has claimed his second Isle of Man TT win after the dramatic and record-breaking Relentless Supersport race 1. Early favourite Michael Dunlop, who had set an unofficial lap record in practice, was out on lap one with a blown engine, and it was Hydrex Honda’s Guy Martin who took a narrow lead over TAS Suzuki’s Bruce Anstey, with Hutchinson in third. At the end of lap one Martin smashed the 600cc lap record with an average lap speed of 125.375mph, while Hutchy moved ahead of Anstey to claim second. On the second lap the Kiwi started pushing forward, moving past Hutchinson and taking the lead from Martin by Ramsey – Martin would later reveal his machine had developed mechanical problems, compromising his challenge.Anstey finished the second lap in a stunning time of 17mins 53.23s, the first sub-18 minute lap for a 600 and an average speed of 126.549mph. With Hutchinson now back in second, Martin was now occupied with fighting Craig Wilson Honda rider Keith Amor for the final podium position. Anstey built his advantage up to more than 10 seconds on lap three and looked set for victory as Hutchinson tried to preserve his slim advantage over Martin. However, with the chequered flag just minutes way, Anstey pulled over at Brandywell, with early reports suggesting the TAS Suzuki was out of fuel.

That left Hutchinson to secure his second TT win in a race record time, with Martin second and Amor adding a second Supersport podium to his TT record.

McGuinness Prevails

Morecambe's John McGuinness won a record-breaking Superbike TT race today, coming home over 18 seconds clear of HM Plant Honda team-mate Steve Plater. McGuinness also set a new outright lap record of 130.442mph on his way to claiming his 15th TT victory, the second highest total in the history of the races.

With dry, sunny conditions all around the course, McGuinness was pushed hard in the early stages by Conor Cummins on the McAdoo Racing Kawasaki and his advantage was only 5 seconds at the end of the first lap but he pushed hard on his second lap and a new outright lap record of 130.442mph saw his lead up to 11 seconds. However, team-mate Steve Plater, who became the second man to officially lap at over 130mph with a speed of 130.122mph, cut the deficit to less than 8 seconds half way round the 3rd lap.

John responded though and later admitted that he pushed really hard on the fifth lap to pull away from his fellow Honda rider. This he duly did and with another 130mph lap on his sixth and final lap, 130.259mph, he ran home 18.11 seconds clear.
